OnLine English was founded by Liz Parkinson and Mike Clancy in 1995 to bring together Australian scientific and linguistic expertise to deliver a superior English language support service to scientists, researchers and other professionals around the world.

| Throughout
the Asia-Pacific
region in the mid- and late-90s, the rapid growth of the Internet in
Australia, Japan, Korea and
Taiwan provided an ideal setting for researchers to take advantage of
the OnLine
English service.
OnLine English commenced operations in Korea in 1995.
Responses and
evaluations from clients and team members led to rapid development of
systems and
processes for online service delivery.
After two years of operating exclusively in Korea, OnLine English
commenced serving
clients in Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan in 1997, Europe and Latin America in 1998,
and the Middle East, the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia in 1999.

early days of its
operation, the OnLine English team was composed, in the main, of
applied linguists and
generalist editors. Feedback from clients highlighted their desire to
