OnLine English achieves ISO accreditation

OnLine English, the world's first online editing company, has now been accredited for meeting an international standard set by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). For the first time, the academic and scientific community has an English-language editing service that carries the ISO guarantee of high quality and dependability.

The CEO of OnLine English, Brad Hooper, says, "Academic journals face a common dilemma: what to do with papers that contain excellent science but sub-standard English. We have been offering a solution to this problem for the past eight years. Researchers from non-English speaking countries submit their papers first to OnLine English, then to their target journal. They know that we will improve their English dramatically, while faithfully preserving their science."

Double editing to journal standards
OnLine English clients have their papers fully edited twice. The first reader has a PhD in the author's own area of expertise, or is an editor and reviewer of a relevant international journal. The second reader is a scientific editor or linguist. The double-edited paper then receives a final quality scan before return to the client, with most papers having a four-day turn-around. Editors are available to answer queries from clients until full satisfaction is achieved.

Quality-assured academic and scientific editing
In March 2003, NCS International was invited to audit the company. This independent auditor has certified that the quality management system of OnLine English complies with the requirements of the ISO 9001:2000 set of standards. This puts OnLine English in a class of its own within the industry.

Joan Fenton, Client Services Manager for OnLine English, says, "I think one of our greatest achievements is the culture of excellence that exists amongst our editors and support staff. Each team member takes great delight from working within a quality framework where each job is taken through to the point where the author is fully satisfied."

ISO certification is a milestone not only for OnLine English, but also for the international scientific publishing industry. Journal reviewers need have no hesitation referring clients to OnLine English for editing support, knowing that its quality management system meets the highest of international standards.
